Once you have your Disney World tickets in hand and once you have spent some time searching for the best Disney World discounts so that you can get the most fun for your vacation dollar, you may think you have most of your Disney trip planned out. This is not necessarily the case. Disney World is a huge theme park and getting there and getting around can be tricky. You will want to plan ahead to make sure that you do not waste any vacation time being lost.
If you are arriving from outside the state, you will likely be flying in. Try to find a flight that takes you to the Orlando International Airport. This is the closest airport to Disney World and allows you to access the theme park by car, taxi, limo, town car, or free Disney’s Magical Express. If you are staying at one of the Walt Disney World hotels, be sure to ask about Disney’s Magical Express. You need to book ahead by phone, but it will save you some money you can put towards you vacation. If you are renting a car at the airport, travel by Florida State Routes 528 and 417 to Interstate 4, which will take you directly into Walt Disney World.
If you are flying in from International destinations, you may not be able to find a convenient flight into the Orlando International Airport. If this is the case, take a flight into the Orlando-Sanford International Airport. It is further away from the park than Orlando International, and Disney’s Magical Express service does not service this airport. Nevertheless, if this is where you land you will want to take your taxi or car along Florida State Routes 46 and 417 to Interstate 4 and into the theme park.
If you do not wish to fly, Amtrak, Auto Train, and Greyhound all have routes that take you close to the theme park.
Once you arrive at Walt Disney World, getting around will be quite easy since the park provides walking areas and driving areas as well as buses, monorails, and ferryboats. Walkways connect Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Swan & Dolphin resort, Yacht & Beach Clubs, and Boardwalk, so you can conveniently walk between these areas. Downtown Disney and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort are also connected by walkways. You can easily rent strollers and wheelchairs at the entrance of every park, if anyone in your group needs help getting around.
Buses within the theme park can take you wherever you want to go inside Walt Disney World. However, keep in mind that if time is a constraint, a rented car may let you see more in less time. Also, by renting a car, you may be able to dine outside of the theme park, which can save you money substantially. If time is a problem, if you want to see attractions outside of Disney World, or if you want to enjoy cheaper food and souvenirs outside the parks, rent a car. You can also get a less expensive hotel outside the theme parks and travel in by car. Do the math to see if this will save you money.
